Avian influenza detected in Moergestel

News release | 09-02-2026 | 11:30

In Moergestel (municipality of Oisterwijk, province of North Brabant) avian influenza has been confirmed at a turkey farm. To prevent the spread of the virus, the approximately 38,000 turkeys at the site are being culled by the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA).

Within the 1‑km and 3‑km zones around this infected location there is no other poultry farm. In the 10‑km zone there are 18 other poultry farms.

Transport ban

A transport ban is in effect immediately throughout the entire 10‑km zone. This means that from locations with birds in this zone, no birds, hatching eggs and/or table eggs may be transported. A ban also applies to the removal of bird manure and used bedding. These measures are necessary to prevent spread to other parts of the country. Animals other than birds and their products may still be brought to and from locations with birds, provided this is done in accordance with the strict conditions of the hygiene protocol.

The location of the 10‑km zone can be viewed on the animal disease viewer of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) (link).
